Kansas Failure to Diagnose Lawyers

Failing to diagnose a patient can be the most life threatening mistake a medical professional can make. Delaying diagnosis can also be a form of failing to diagnose a patient. Some diseases are so rampant, that failing to diagnose them in a timely fashion can lead to the acceleration and mutation of the disease, sometimes to a point where the patient is unable to benefit from treatment.

All medical professionals are trained to recognize and diagnose symptoms. If they are unable to make a diagnosis from the patient’s symptoms, it is their responsibility to determine what the root causes are. If a diagnosis is still unknown they should refer you to a more specialized or experienced medical professional to rule out any possibilities and determine a diagnosis immediately. Failing to diagnose you and sending you home is not an option.

The most common types of diseases and conditions that cause a failure to diagnose or delayed diagnosis are:

  • Heart attack
  • Cancer (especially breast, lung and colon)
  • Appendicitis
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Bacterial meningitis

Another popular type of illness that is failed to be diagnosed is diabetes. Diabetes is a very serious and aggressive disease. Treatment for such a specialized disease should only be administered by a medical professional who is specialized in treating diabetes. If proper treatment is not administered to a diabetes patient, then serious injury or even death could occur.

The American Diabetes Association recommends two different types of tests that can be performed to determine pre-diabetes or diabetes. A health professional should be aware of both of these types of tests and when diabetes is suspected, one or both of the tests should be performed. The types of tests that should be performed are:

  • Fasting Plasma Glucose Test (FPG)
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)

If diabetes is suspected, these tests will be performed. Only specially trained medical professionals are capable of testing, diagnosing and treating diabetes. If your doctor is not properly trained for diagnosing diabetes and may suspect it, they should immediately refer you to a specialist who can care for you properly. Failure to do is negligence on their part and puts your life at risk.

Failing to diagnose can be caused by many different reasons, but a patient should never be left undiagnosed or untreated.

Failing to diagnose a patient can result in serious injury or even death. Serious diseases need to be diagnosed and treated to prevent them from becoming more serious and becoming more aggressive.
